62nd Annual Southwest Texas College Rodeo Draws Thrilling Competition to Uvalde

Uvalde, TX, October 17, 2024 - The 62nd Annual Southwest Texas College Rodeo brought top-tier collegiate rodeo action to the Uvalde County Fairplex Rodeo Arena as part of the Southern Region of the National Intercollegiate Rodeo Association (NIRA). Athletes from 13 colleges and universities in the Southern Region competed in a variety of events, showcasing their skill, grit, and determination over three action-packed days.
 
The rodeo, held October 3-5, was the second event of the fall rodeo season. Competitors engaged in classic rodeo events, with men competing in bareback bronc riding, calf roping, steer wrestling, saddle bronc riding, team roping, and bull riding. On the women’s side, events included barrel racing, breakaway roping, and goat tying—all featuring intense performances and high-level competition.
 
Both the Southwest Texas College men’s and women’s teams demonstrated skill and resilience in the competition, earning spots in the top 10.
 
Men's Team: 5th Place – 260 points
Women's Team: 8th Place – 70 points
 
Blaze Wyatt Byler led the men’s team with an impressive showing in multiple events, finishing as the Men’s All-Around Champion with a total of 150 points. His success helped drive the SWTX men's team to a 5th-place finish overall.
